How to Make Your Aeotec Z-Wave LED Light Work Seamlessly With Vera Lite

The Aeotec Z-Wave LED Light bulb is a perfect entry-level smart home device for all your lighting automation needs. This LED light bulb is dimmable and comes with RGBW colors. Since it is the 5th generation of Aeotec LED light bulbs, you can expect new things to come your way. However, there are several users currently having issues with their Vera Lite Home Controller in terms of seamless operation but it has already been reported by Vera that they are working on it.

If you have recently purchased the Aeotec Z-Wave LED Light along with your Vera Lite home controller, you probably have experienced the bug that shows “Please Wait! Getting secure classes.” If you are one of the people experiencing this, worry not as you’re new smart home LED light bulb is working fine and it is truly capable of doing RGB colors.

 

The Temporary Fix

If you are encountering the bug mentioned above, you can refer to this link to get the RGB colors of the Aeotec Z-Wave LED light to work with Vera Lite home controller. While the forum has not mentioned Vera Lite, we have verified that the plugin is working fine with the home controller. It is also important to note that all color options is available for the Vera Lite as well as the other Vera home controllers.

  1. Download the plugin from here. Alternatively, you can download and install the app by navigating to your home controller and looking in Apps>Install apps by simply searching for the RGB controller for Aeotec Z-Wave LED light bulbs.
  2. In the Settings tab, look for your Aeotec Z-Wave LED light bulb and select the specific settings provided in the manual.
  3. Just UI5: There’s no JSON decoder installed by default.

If you have the error “No JSON decoder”, you have to upload the library in “/usr/lib/lua”. You can take “json.lua” or “dkjson.lua”. You will find “json.lua” here. Alternatively, this code can be executed in “Apps->Develop apps->Test Luup code (Lua)”

  1. Once you have the necessary tools/plugins, you can now control your RGBW device by simply going to the dashboard and tinker with the settings available there. The dashboard has access to change the colors, turn the switch on/off set default colors and more.

For advanced users

You can edit your Aeotec Z-Wave LED light settings via Lua autoscript. Here are the commands you can use.

– Switch on/off the RGBW device

– Start an animation program

The Other Fix

If you find the steps to be a little too confusing for your skill level, you can wait for Vera’s update so you will have no issues setting up the Aeotec Z-Wave LED light bulb. You can expect the patch to be released by early next year (2016). We have received reports that the update is currently being tested for any bugs and issues to ensure that consumers will have a seamless experience controlling and changing light colors and moods with minimal tweaking.
